The VCAA provided the following clarification in response to questions about the World Health Organization (WHO) priorities, which relate to VCE Health and Human Development Unit 4 Area of Study 2:
The ‘Health-related Millennium Development Goals’ is still one of the priorities of the WHO, despite the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) being replaced by the Sustainable Development Goals. In relation to this priority, students and teachers should understand that:

• the MDG are transitioning to the Sustainable Development Goals
• that it will take time to assess the achievement of the MDG
• WHO continues to monitor progress towards the MDG
• the emphasis of this priority is on sustaining the gains towards achieving the MDG.
   

Students are not required to know the eight MDGs. More information about the WHO and its priorities can be accessed from the WHO website. Please see the VCAA website for more details and the relevant key knowledge and key skill points.

The VCAA requires the changes to the Australian Government’s aid priorities be incorporated into the teaching of VCE Health and Human Development in 2016 and for the remainder of the accreditation period (2014−2017). The changes relate to VCE Health and Human Development Unit 4 Area of Study 2 key knowledge:

    the priorities of the Australian Government’s aid initiatives and the role it plays in developing programs to promote global health and sustainable human development

The Interactive Textbook has been updated accordingly, with the PDF Textbook and Toolkit to follow shortly. This update will also be incorporated into the reprint version of the textbook.

In September 2015 the United Nations replaced the eight Millennium Development Goals with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. As a consequence, further changes have been made to the VCE Health and Human Development Study Design (2014−2017). Chapter 11 of Units 3 & 4 and the toolkit is impacted. The PDFs and Interactive Textbook has been updated to reflect the Study Design. This update will also be incorporated into the reprint version of the textbook.

Cambridge has updated the Interactive Textbooks and PDF versions of Cambridge VCE Health and Human Development Units 1–4 Second Edition series to provide comprehensive coverage of the 2014–2017 study design.

Updates to the Interactive Textbooks and PDFs include:

• revised statistics gathered from the most up-to-date research
• new and updated content to reflect all of the key knowledge and skill areas (including information on the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), World Health Organization (WHO) agenda, priorities of the Australian Government’s aid initiatives as well as concepts of global health and sustainable human development)
• updated inclusion of health organisations programs, such as VicHealth and the National Health Performance Authority (NHPA)
• current graphics and guidelines including Nutrition Australia’s Healthy Eating Pyramid.
   

Updated PDFs of the full title and Interactive Textbook are available as of 1 October, 2015. This update will also be incorporated into the reprint version of the textbook.

Content relating to the abolition of AusAID has been updated in Chapter 12 of Cambridge VCE Health and Human Development Units 3&4 Second Edition. These changes are now available in the PDF version of the textbook and will be incorporated into the reprint version of the textbook.

VCAA has recently advised (27 November 2013) of changes to be incorporated into the teaching of VCE Health and Human Development in 2014.

The changes refer specifically to Unit 4, Area of Study 2, Promoting Global Health and Human Development, and the abolition on November 1st of AusAID. Responsibility for Australia's aid programs will now be handled by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
